Under-9 V Corkbeg

Carrigtwohill Under-9’s played another series of small sided games against Corkbeg at the Carrigtwohill All Weather facility in interesting conditions – snow to sunshine. Three small sided games were played at the same time with all players present getting loads of game time.

These SSGs against like-minded opposition means that all the players involved (on both sides) are getting a great opportunity to develop their understanding in game play, positioning and the rules of the game.

Each series of games are helping to grow the confidence of all the players and it was great to see all the skill, commitment and determination on display by all in what were very “chilly” conditions. Carrigtwohill Under-9’s are developing a good understanding of the game and all the hard work at training is paying off.

Under-11 V Corkbeg

On a cold snowy Sunday, Carrigtwohill Under-11’s faced Corkbeg in a friendly at the Carrigtwohill All Weather Pitch. There were 3 teams of 7 players. On pitch 2 the lads started slowly with a shaky first half where some players struggled to settle in unfamiliar positions. The match went to half-time with Corkbeg leading comfortably. Carrigtwohill came back strongly in second half to cancel out the deficit. A fresh defensive partnership of  Jayden Washeka and Amany  stood resolute in second half to keep a clean sheet in a game where Colm Harte weighed in with a goal after a good workout from Rolie Durango who also scored 2 goals, one of which was a good left foot finish. The goal of the day came from a free-kick taken just outside centre circle by Jayden but Brian Healy’s solo near post finish was typical of an inspired goal-getter. Great finish to an exciting game

On pitch 3 the shape was excellent. Jack Maher made 3 outstanding saves – classic goalkeeper dives. Daniel McCarthy and Padraig Bolger were holding position in the back-line with Rory Dolan sitting in front of them. Daniel Cunningham did well in defence when swapped around with his namesake Daniel McCarthy. Kevin Jones had his shooting boots on when he grabbed 2 early good goals and then to cap it with a hat-trick on a day where we needed some magic to control the game early on. Ende Cungulo put in a great shift in midfield. Daniel McCarthy and Rory had some nice inter-play passes throughout. In particular Daniel McCarthy was a constant threat going forward. Ryan and Adam weighed in with spirited performance too in a day that had no moaning.

In the other game, Corkbeg had their hands with a Carrigtwohill side captained by Alex Lombard. Carrigtwohill had a spirited come back in first half to go level at half-time. There was constant swap in positions that saw John Crowley starting in goals before swapping around with Sebastian. On a day where captains led by example Alex Lombard put up a brave defensive line with the help of Jakub to win himself a Man of the Match award

Man of the Match: Alex Lompard, Jayden Washeka and Kevin Jones

December Player of the Month

The Under-12 player of the month award for December was presented at a recent training session. The award was jointly presented to Cian Lee and Josh Tynan.
Cian is an all-round midfield player who’s energy around the pitch is a valuable asset to the team. Against Midleton away in the local cup, he scored an extra time winner for the second time this season.
Josh is our holding midfielder who helps break up opposition attacks and protects the back four while also starting attacks for the team.
Congratulations to both

January Player of the Month

The Under-12 player of the month award for January was jointly presented to Tadgh Sullivan and Jack O’Regan.
Tadgh has grown into a real leader of this team by the effort and example he shows on the pitch. A vocal presence on the pitch, he backs it up with his performances and  has become a vital goalscorer for the team with 3 goals in the last two games.
Jack has earned his award for really working hard and changing his attitude in recent weeks. A midfielder who has developed into a real team player, makes assists and scores goals.
Both Tadgh and Jack are perfect examples to the rest of the squad to show what can be achieved with hard work and the right attitude.
Well done lads.

Under-12 V Leeside

Carrigtwohill played two friendly matches against Leeside on the All Weather Pitch in Carrigtwohill. This was a welcome outing for all the squad and gave much needed game time to players. Two competitive games ended with a win each. Well done to both teams for their efforts on the day.

The biggest lesson the Carrigtwohill players should take from the day was not to get over confident when ahead and let the opposition back into matches.

Man of the Match: Ryan Cooke
