Looking back on 30 years of football at Knockgriffin Park.

So many achievements on and off the field. We will over the next few weeks share some photo’s of those years.

First season of 2016/17 started with the official opening by the President of the FAI with a number of representatives from club and town present for the big occasion

Goalscorers : James Leahy, Adam Wilson

Hard fought game tonight after the Xmas break and nothing else was expected , on a heavy pitch, credit once again to grounds man for getting the pitch in fantastic condition for game to go ahead, midleton started well and should have taken a early lead through Adam Wilson who shot over from close range to no avail.
James Leahy made no mistake with a mazy run and got a bit of luck with a break off him but never gave up to just nip the keeper to it and give midleton a deserved lead.
But definitely the moment of the game came in the following few minutes good build up play saw John Keane through down the wing and he turned St. Marys defender inside out and produce a sublime ball into the on rushing Adam Wilson from opposite wing, to head home from 6yrds ,every coaches dream goal.
Jake Hegarty went close on two occasions from distance one crashing off the bar.
Andy O Donoghue was called into action just before half time and saved well to his left hand side.HT 2-0

St. Marys started second half fighting but produced no real clear cut chances, but got a lifeline from a set piece that evaded everyone to make a game of it with 25min on the clock, the game became scrappy from here on in with some heavy tackles but how midleton didn’t win this game by more with some amazing misses and some last ditch blocks 3 if not 4 on the line in last 20min is beyond belief.
But 2-1 it stayed for a very hard earned 3pts for Midleton who now take up 2nd spot in the table.

Football can’t always be pretty and you have to dig deep on occasions and that the players did tonight. Well done lads great win.
